You have the beginnings of a proceedure to randomize points on a sphere. Generate x,y,z triples in range +/- 1. Convert to spherical coordinate system. Exclude any triple with r>1. Set remaining points r=1 and the those points will be randomly distributed on surface of sphere unit radius.
