    Dave,

    You should try making a wind hood for your artificial horizon. Check this archive link:

    The 64' measurement that you did was done correctly. You measured 2 Sun diameters. The artificial horizon doesn't change how the sextant measures. Double check correction sequence: 1. Apply index correction to artificial horizon observation. 2. Divide by two. 3. Apply refraction and semi diameter correction for the halved value. Do not correct for height of eye.  Good luck on your next series of AH Sun observations.
