I haven't worked it yet but the apparent retrograde motion in
observation c and the 1? discrepancy leads me to wonder if they were
measuring to the wrong side of the moon. Trying to line a star up on
the shadow line could lead to the large errors that are apparent in
their data (don't ask me how I know this). As well, if they were on
the wrong side and they took the wrong sign of the semidiameter, this
could lead to an error of about a degree. Hmmm...I guess it's a bit
hard to believe they could make that many errors. I suppose I should
try working it to see how it works out.
