I have found the first surface mirros to be benficial, particularly for lower angles sights. With first surface I have shot stars staning 20 feet back from the mirror and still seen clearly. For bodies with diameter it is easier to see tangency accurately. For point sources you will not see as much flare and double reflection. Both of these will increase accuracy and makes sight taking more pleasant. It takes the abiguity out of determining that "just right" moment. Also, the surfaces are optically flat so the distotions of cheap mirros are gone. It will pick up fine scratches over from placing the levels, but it does not affect their use. You may purchase a sheet of first surface, already cut into 4 each 6 X 6 inch pieces for 72$ (plus shipping)from "Alpine Glass". I have delt with them before and the service was good. If you have friends who want to try it you may split the costs of course. Sadly I broke mine, but I will be replacing it in the next 2 weeks.
