    I wish I had kept a copy of the JPL memo in the early 80s outlining their
    ideas about getting heading information from GPS. I'm sure it's similar
    to what you described.
    
    Your comments remind me of when I headed an Air Force project, and my
    spacecraft manager devised a scheme to use GPS to establish attitude. He
    used two sensors as far apart as possible. This is a long ways from
    determining heading, but sort of in the same vein. Alas, it was a Shuttle
    mission, and the Challenger disaster pretty much scuttled their interest
    in that as a launch vehicle.
