There's an article on the Washington Post web site on the leap second debate. It's about the best I've seen on the topic, considering some of the alarmist nonsense that's been published elsewhere: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/25/AR200512250049 6_2.html Now suppose for the sake of argument that leap seconds are abolished. What would be the consequences for celestial navigation enthusiasts, say, twenty years from now? Could the change in time standard be accomodated by minor changes in the way that the Nautical Almanac data are published? Or is there some other approach? -FER 42.0N 87.7W, or 41.4N 72.1W. www.HistoricalAtlas.com/lunars
