Lawmakers overseeing US Coast Guard move to stop CG from dismantling any more of Loran.

I think many of us realize that the 21st Century version of
Loran, eLoran, would be a robust alternative to GPS in case GPS is
jammed. Land-based transmitters, signal thousands of times more
powerful than GPS, very different frequencies -- all characteristics of
    a robust alternative.

In fact, several countries, including Britain and South Korea, are
    implementing eLoran systems.

eLoran was proposed as an upgrade to the US's Loran system several years
ago -- and then deleted from the US budget.

This new bill does not quite make it happen, but it at least stops the
US Coast Guard from tearing down and/or selling off any facilities
needed to revive Loran and update it to eLoran.
