    I just read February's archive and this was a thread at that time.
    Harold Gatty in his "Raft Book" (1943) provided a table for calculating
    latitude by length of day with a claimed accuracy of 6 to 10 miles.
    
    >Air force Manual AFM 64-5 "Survival" (1961) has a nomogram for the same thing 
    claiming an accuracy of 30 minutes of latitude. The current Air Force 
    survival manual has the same nomogram.
