One thing to remember is that Polaris is about 1deg. from the pole. Therefore you can get intercepts of + or - one at certain times.

What do I get when I try to calculate the HC with Polaris's LHA, Dec using properly cleared altitude as an assumed latitude?
Looks like if I add the HC with the intercept value - I get the real latitude... The error is rather small for moderate latitudes.
