The U.S. Air Force has retired the last T-43 "flying classroom" (a version of the Boeing 737). In the words of a training squadron commander, "This aircraft was designed to do celestial navigation, as the primary training platform for that, where we would teach students how to navigate using the sun, the stars and the moon. We don't do that anymore." Smaller jets will take over the navigator training job. And they're not called "navigators" anymore. It's CSO (combat systems officer). http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123222626 --
