    The preface of my 1981 edition of HO229 says the calculations were
    performed on an IBM 1410 computer.   The 1410 was sold or leased by IBM
    from 1960 to 1970, so the ~1970 date seems right.
    
    Interestingly, Mystic Seaport claims HO229 was first published in 1981:

    Chuck should send them the publication date page from his 1970 copy!!
