Re: Jupiter-Moon Lunar from a photo

    Hello, Mehmet!

As the carasteristic conjuction of Saturn and Jupiter is one of the top events for those who are interested in astronomy, it was clear that most probably (in fact I was 99% sure), the picture was taken this year (I was sure that not only this year, but excatly the end of this year). To check this and to determine exact date I used Stellarium.

There are many easily indentifiable stars around the two planets and the Moon in the picture. Therefore it was easy to get confirmation that the year 2020 is correct: Stellarium shows that indeed the position of Saturn and Jupiter against the stars (in such a distance one planet from other),  and the Moon (futhermore the Moon in such a phase as in the picture) is posible only in 16th of December 2020.

Of course I took into account that the Moon position can be a little bit shifted in Sellarium, because the coordinats of the place where unknown (I freelly assumed my current GP position).

I did not even start to analyse whether such a combination of Saturn, Jupiter and the Moon (in such a phase) in the same position against the stars is possible in other year and date, because it seemed obvious that it could happen maybe once in hundreds or even thousands years. I have no idea preciselly the probability of such a coincidence :).

Stellarium can easy and fast approve that years 1921, 1941, 1961, 1981, 2000 does not match. Saturn and Jupiter are projected on background of completelly different stars.

    Modris
