Welcome aboard Jonathan. Your father was probably of my vintage - if so, your copy of Dutton will work just fine, although it contains much of the old stuff. If you are serious in your pursuit of navigation, you will need a copy of Bowditch to complement Dutton and to prov ide the necessary Tables.

Would like to join the conversation. My father served in the US Navy during World War II. Sadly, he died about two years ago. In going through the house, found his copy of Dutton from his days as a midshipman at Villanova College. Since then I have developed a desire to learn a good bit more about Celestial Navigation.
