    Point taken. I too have done some business on ebay, in my case, buying. What I did, several times, was to make up my so-called mind, as to what I was willing to pay for whatever, and submit that amount as a maximum bid. Sometimes I "won" sometimes not, that's life in the fast lane.

    Re this Japanese slide rule, I notice that there is a reserve price, submitted bids not meeting that minimum, at least when last I looked. I never bid on "auctions" where there was a reserve price.

    Your estimate of value might be dead on, or way off base, I have no idea. In the end, we shall see what bidders think the thing is worth, assuming anyone's bid meets the reserve, whatever that might be.

    The device itself,from what one can see of t, looks like it is in good condition, but then I have never seen one of them, in the flesh.
