    In her book "Navigation for Yachtsmen", Mary Blewitt reduced the problem of 'many' position lines by bisecting position lines which were roughly parallel. In this way, 'many' position lines could be reduced to two, and your position is where they cross. Admittedly, this is a somewhat subjective procedure and it can be called part of the 'art of navigating'. But I have found it an effective procedure.
