Yes, I have, on an EBCO sextant that I almost couldn't wait to get rid of. I have also tried white on a dark grey scale of a Freiberger. For nice, crisp results, scrape out the old paint first with a scriber, using some magnification to make sure you get it all out, and if you have re-sprayed the background, allow more than enough time for it to cure thoroughly.
