Re: Indiana adopts Daylight Saving Time!

    Bill you wrote:
"A provision of passing the DST bill [...] is a federal ruling on what time
zone Indiana will be in. "

    Frank you replied:
I don't think they have it that easy. The federal authority on time zones
doesn't make those decisions. It can only approve or disapprove a specific
plan submitted by a state based on its effect on trade. I doubt Indiana will
be able to put together a plan to submit to the Feds after all the emotion
wasted on the DST debate. The status quo on the Eastern/Central boundary in
    Indiana will stand.

Point well taken. Unfortunately, a portion of the legislative brain trust
involved in the DST-school-yard political brawl appears to have energy for
petitioning the fed with a plan(s). On the upside, as "My Man Mitch" who
initiated this debacle is a buddy of Bush's, perhaps the Fed can be "swayed"
    to leave well-enough alone.

    And Bill wrote:
"Possible outcome, a vertically-oriented state being split somewhere near
    the middle."

    And Frank replied:
Indiana already has some counties on Central Time. I don't think it will
matter much if they shift the line, but I still doubt that this will
    happen.

It matters to me if I fall in Central. I hope you are correct in your
assessment. We have counties in the NW and SW corners of the state observing
Central, and counties in the SE corner observing Eastern, some of the latter
unofficially observing DST. For an interesting overview please see:

Imagine how disconcerting this would all be to philosophers of old playing
with the "time arrow". A whole new wrinkle.
