Sure if you know what the answer is advance you can insert enough extra words to make the meaning come out correctly but as it stands it doesn't seem very natural; at least to me. This level of ambiguity is not really very satisfactory in a mathematics book. It may be that Abramowitz and Stegun have provided a precise definition for the term "the correction to" elsewhere in the text which would make it ok (but still unnatural in my view),
