Watch craigslist. If you are patient one will come up within a reasonable distance of you...if you are on one of the coasts. They often seem to appear in the Pacific Northwest. During recent months there have been a couple of very nice Tamayas in the <$400 range that included 2 scopes and all the little doodads. There are also some overpriced Plaths and Tamayas so start watching the market and you'll get a feel for condition and prices. Finding one locally off craigslist is nice since you can have a look before buying.
The last I checked there was an overpriced Tamaya Jupiter in Boston, a reasonably priced Astra on Long Island and an underpriced Tamaya MS2 in Bellingham, WA.
Have fun with the hunt.
