I SAY AGAIN -- Re: ADMIN: attachments: pdf vs jpg and others

    RE : https://NavList.net/m2.aspx/ADMIN-attachments-pdf-vs-jpg-others-FrankReed-apr-2013-g23651

To the Kind Attention and Understanding of M. Frank E. Reed in particular.

I SAY AGAIN what I wrote in NavList g23645 earlier to-day.

Once a "simple/plain" Document (such as the recent ones from Greg, or the enclosed one here) has been scanned from a "standard/usual/home" scanner (such as EPSON SX105, EPSON SX 115, HP Deskjet 2050 A - and BTW it is certainly worth trying other different and similar/comparable Scanners) saving such Document under the ".pdf" format (vs. the .jpg format) offers a number of definite advantages, and namely :

    - File Size , and
    - Printing Speed

The 2 enclosed files from the very same document are a good example of my findings which I keep recommending for trial and use to whoever in NavList wishes to kindly listen and understand.

    - The .jpg file just scanned on an EPSON SX115 (EPSON SCAN Software) is a 1,344K document, and it took 5 minutes and 37 seconds to print it from this same EPSON SX115. On the other hand :

    - The .pdf file of this same document scanned on the same EPSON SX115 (EPSON SCAN Software) is a 663K document, and it took 1 minute and 55 seconds to print it from this same EPSON SX115.

Numbers speak for themselves : this .jpg file is TWICE as big as the .pdf one, and printing this .jpg document takes almost 3 TIMES as long than printing this same document saved under .pdf

And, cherry on the cake, - as most of you could check it in a matter of minutes - the .pdf printout is a bit more legible and definitely much cleaner than its .jpeg counterpart. Isn't life beautiful ??? :-)

I have done the very same test on a HP Deskjet 2050A Scanner/Printer , and have obtained ratios similar to the EPSONSX115 ones quoted here-above.

I did not say less, I did not say more, and in particular never did I advocate transforming a pre-existing .jpg document into a .pdf one in order to subsequently print it.

    Kermit
