I have had a similar issue, and in the end settled on using a surveyor's tribrach with a glass plate attached to a Seco adaptor plate. The tribrachs level out quickly: most even have a built-in bubble level to do the rough leveling -- then I fine-tune level with a 30" bubble atop the glass. One can purchase tribrachs on eBay for under $50, so you could even pre-position two or three of them all leveled out and then simply drop in the Seco adaptor and plate into different tribrachs as you moved around. (If anyone would like to see pice of the tribrach set-up, email me and I will sent you a shot) Definitely not as convenient as a self-leveling system, but I could never figure out how to get a true level from a floating body and can't stand fussing with even something as simple as the Davis water- filled artificial horizon. -p --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Navigation List archive: www.fer3.com/arc To post, email NavList@fer3.com To , email NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
