No, it is NOTHING like those books. I was asked to review a draft of John Huth's book a little over a year ago. I presume it has been significantly revised since then so I won't comment further on my original impressions, but I cannot imagine that the overall goal of the book has changed. It is a "meditation" on aspects of navigation aimed at "liberal arts" majors at the college level. In the draft I saw, there were also a few chapters on special topics, of interest to John Huth personally, which struck me as distinctly out of place in the context of the other chapters.
