When I was a kid, I I could see San Nicolas Island from the Palos Verdes Peninsula when the weather was esp clear: distance 75 miles from an elevation of 1,100 ft.
And from our house here in the SF Bay Area, I can see mountains 70 miles to the north from an elevation of 420ft. Conditions have to be just right though. Pic below
