Re: How best to pronounce Eratosthenes?

    Hi Dave,

I might have to refer to Eratosthenes in a couple of weeks time, and I’m wondering how best to recall the name and how best to pronounce it without tying a knot in my tongue or revealing an almost total ignorance of the Classics.  Would I be far wrong if I simply said Eratos The Knees very quickly?  Dave

The first one on the link below gives the pronunciation from a Greek person---different cadence and emphasis---but suitable only for presentations in Greek I guess:

The name is pronounced a few seconds into this charming introductory video on geodesy (not sure where I saw this---might have been NavList):

    Cheers,
    Peter
