Hi Jim I think the problem is that the rate changes. How would you know the new one? Let us assume that you have a CE of 60 seconds, which gains 5 seconds a day. Due to some unknown problem, the rate changes. What is the new rate? What is the new CE? And therefore, what is GMT? Having a record of what happened in the past is not necessarily a predictor of future performance. How about a log which keeps error and rate. John Harrison's chronometer had to be accurate for three years at sea for him to win the prize. And there were zero sources of time ticks then.
