The Navy takes the Mechanical Chronometer very serious, If maintained properly it will give years of accurate use. The bridge will use 3 (oddman out)size 85 it can be described as a jerky montion for the second hand and 4 inch face plate. It should be placed near the center line of the ship and is not near vertical iron and electrical machinery, and is on gimbles. They are always kept in their glass covered box to protect them from moisture and temperture change. They are wound every day, with a time tick to check on their GMT. A rate book keeps daily error, daily rate and average daily rate, the time of the check and the QM must sign. Much truoble for a missed day. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ NavList message boards: www.fer3.com/arc Or post by email to: NavList@fer3.com To , email NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
