Linked images show a variation of the chart plotting board solution for a horizontal sextant angle. The example is for a 45° horizontal sextant angle and a distance from mark A to mark B of 16.6NM with a radius point solution of approximately 11.6NM.
If done by calculater then 8.3/COS 45° = 11.74NM
So the charting board graphical solution is reasonably close.
