When I had this issue with an older horizon mirror, I dismounted it and sent it for professional re-silvering. To some firm in the UK, if I recall properly. It was reasonably priced as I also recall.
No fuss. No muss. No frenzied searches for how to do it for a ha' penny. Returned to me beautifully wrapped. Re-mounted it. Problem solved
