It was Frank who figured out it was a bug in the Java code, caused by a Java update.  There is nothing like having a copy of the Nautical Almanac on board!  The haversine-Donial method developed here on Nav-list, provides minimal paper volume to reduce sights without a computer.  I suppose use of a laptop for sight reductions is warranted for yacht races that require celestial navigation, but, otherwise, just use a GPS unit, and have a spare or two in plastic bags!
