It's convienent treating Polaris as a normal LOP since you can then advance it normally and the P&N correction also takes care of it (if using the H.O. 249 VOL 1 coordinates and 'Q" table.) And calculating Hc for Polaris using the "Q" table couldn't be easier.

I've been away from my computer for a while. Still taking a few fixes every once in a while. Thanks to Gary Lapook, things are much easier within the cramped confines of my cockpit. The Polhemus computer/plotting board is a must if you do not have a desk to plot on. (You can't find the JNC charts anymore anyway.)

I have been reading and learning. I think I know more now than I ever knew in the Air Force. The other night, I got a "three star" fix on the way from SFO to ORD. I was able to coach my First Officer on how to shoot the moon at his 5 O'Clock pos. then got Jupiter off of our nose and Kochab at our 8 O'Clock pos. I then crossed it with a Latitude by Polaris using the intercept method. Not sure I ever did something like that in the bomber.

The young First Officers are amazed when they score a fix with the GPS position and its within 5 miles. I guess they don't teach stuff like that anymore. Just throwing out a DR position and taking a few cel. shots still works.
