Some people use a small light mounted on a strap that fits onto the
forehead. I have noticed that there is now a much greater variety of
such lights available, and their prices have come down. They can be
found at camping and other stores catering to leisure activities. Some
have LED illumination. My limited experience with these lights is that
they tend to be too bright, so destroying one's night vision, but I
would imagine that could be overcome (eg; use of filters).
