Thanks to -Mike Wescott mike.wescott@XXX.XXX I have found an error in my calculation on problem (3) I calculated the weight for the whole trip, thus 1530 lbs. I should have subtracted 6 days which is the difference from Port Jackson (Sydney) to Wellington. I just looked at the question in (3) and made the assumption the provision were from Sydney to Boston. The new calculations. [(8 * 1.75)* 64] *1.5 + [ (8*.75)*10] =1404 lbs. Now I differ from Mike's calculation by 52.5 lbs. Although I made an interpretation in the problem... I made an assumption that the 3/4 lb per day was per person which is an extra 60 lbs. I though 3/4 lbs per 8 people per day was a bit wee. So I could still be wrong. But in any case thanks to Mike's answer I have now figured out where the provisions were put aboard. :-) Still............... Learning the Hard Way!!
