Thanks very much for the HiDef photos and explanation. Please don't do anything that would damage your treasure. Does the height of the locking knob rise when turned from the fully unlocked to locked position? If so this would indicate that it is on a screw probably pulling a tapered plug into a constriction at the base of the (co)tangent tube as opposed to turning a cam which was a solution that Wolfgang Hasper had implemented,
