Just for clarification: The US Naval Academy has NOT "stopped teaching celestial" What they have done is reduced the number of sights cadets are required to take and, more important, teach sight reduction using a computer program rather than manually.

Although it's not explicit in any of the articles I read, I'm assuming that taking sights has been subsumed into some other navigation course at the USNA rather than being a stand-alone course (with, presumably, a variety of sight reduction techniques taught)

Byron: What is goning on with the USCG? I understand that Surface Warfare School Newport now teaches a course in Celestial. I don't know how many hours and what they exactly teach. I also heard that they, SWS. have a cilviain merchy on thier staff?. Both SWS and USCG and I understand The Naval Academy have not teached Celestial in a long time. What is the new interest?
here do they want the fix position? just wondering.
