I've done this on 5 different brand names of GPS chartplotters and I'll guarantee that they show a rhumb line but follow a Great Circle.  I told these units to go from Grand Rapids, Michigan to Yokohama <sp> Japan.  This should nearly send you over the pole, which is what the GPS indicated based on it's initial course.  However it drew a line from Grand Rapids straight west at the same latitude through the States and across the Pacific Ocean to Japan.  ALL units tested did the same thing!
