Thanks for that John. I may have been misinformed. However, the first mate of the cruise ship I was on did say that they were not required to have a sextant as part of their personal equipment. I think the ship had one stored away somewhere as part of the ships gear but it never saw the light of day. All the navigation officers had several GPS's. Regards, Neville
