Electronics are fine, when they work. Most of the time, these days, it seems that they do. Still it strikes me that relying entirely on electronics is begging for trouble, though being a land bound navigaator, what do I know. One thing thst might be of passing interest to some. A god friend on mine, since deceased, was a licensed master, a graduate of The Merchant Marine Academy aka Kings Point. He sailed for Lykes Brothers out of New Orleans for a number of years. He had mentioned in passing, that ships he comaded during his last few years at sea were all electronics re navigating. Notwithstanding that he never sailed without his own personal sextant, an old, carefully maintained and checked English sextant. Perhaps old dogs don't learn new tricks very well. I believe the U.S. Coast Guard still requires Celestial Navigation for licensed deck officers, though I could be wrong.
