    Gipsy Moth IV Sun LOPs
    From: Greg Rudzinski
    Date: 2014 May 6, 10:45 -0700

Gipsy Moth Circles The World by Sir Francis Chichester contains a few examples of Sun sight reductions in the appendix. Attached find excerpts of LOPs reduced by the haversine method. The math checks out vs. smartphone app for the retro 14 October 1966 LOPs. There wasn't a plot in the book so see attached a back of the envelope running fix plot using a best guess at course and speed.

The great irony is that Chichester had to resort to haversines rather than using a Bygrave as was done during his early aviation exploits.
