Neither English nor French (hmm, just let's say that's the short version) but am familiar with use of lamda notation.
"In celestial and coastal Navigation Lambda (lower case) denotes longitude.. "

A quick search reveals many references to lambda being associated with longitude. Most of them, not surprisingly as they're in English, seem of US and UK origin.

I've used lamda for longitude forever but I don't remember where I learned to do that. Do they use lamda in Germany also?
How about you English and French guys, do you use the same notation?gl
