Clive, Thank you sending us the sad news that George has passed away. When you wrote a couple of weeks ago asking for an email address, I had feared that his health had taken a turn for the worse. I am very sorry he won't be joining us again, and I'm genuinely sorry I never got the chance to meet him, especially since I am planning a trip to London in March. Most NavList members know that George and I frequently disagreed on some technical issues involving the history of navigation and other matters, but I always welcomed his messages since they were invariably well-written and intelligent. Ted Gerrard pointed me to a page about George that has been placed on the Royal Institute of Navigation's web site: http://www.rin.org.uk/News.aspx?ID=378&SectionID=0&ItemID=1976 There's a photo of him for those of you who haven't seen and even a gentle reference to his 'Father Christmas' beard. Though I do not usually presume to "speak for NavList", on this one occasion, I will. Please pass along condolences from the NavList community to his wife and family. For NavList members, if you did not see my previous reference, you can view all messages posted by George Huxtable from his earliest (that we have indexed) in October of 1998 to his last in August of 2011: http://www.fer3.com/arc/sort2.aspx?y=199401&y2=202001&author=huxtable amounting to nearly 2700 messages and over 65 megabytes of text, photos, and other files. -FER
