    Gambey sextants
    From: Will O?Neil
    Date: 2001 Apr 27, 11:53 EDT

In the 1850s, the U.S. Navy's Depot of Charts and Instruments (headed by
Matthew F. Maury) bought "Gambey sextants" at least twice from E & GW
Blunt in New York. (Also on the shopping list were a number of other
instruments as well as books and charts, bought for exploration expeditions.)
Does anyone have any notion of what a "Gambey sextant" may have been?
