So many questions! We regularly sail through pirate areas, we spent December in the Sulu Sea which has become flooded with ISIS fighters fleeing Syria. The master on a ship two nm from us was shot. Luckily he survived. At the minute they are just carrying out basic skiff assaults on ships looking for hostages but it did occur to us that gps spoofing our position by just a mile or two would be easily enough to put us onto one of the many submerged reefs at night... We felt very beholden to GPS... Roughly what size of position discrepancy would someone only averagely compétant with a sextant be likely to notice?
