    Ah, but good design also allows for variations in manufacture.   Unless, of course, you go to an offshore factory which a friend of mine did with his startup and discovered the factory continuously "tweaking" the design for easier production with no concern for end performance.    I rather suspect that large companies with offshore manufacturing (think Apple) have a hell of a lot of their employees watching over the contract manufacturing folks....

    Quality of the design is one thing. Another might be the quality of the designs execution, otherwise it's manufacture. As for engineering backgroud, you have me, as I was, at best, a 1/4 or 1/8 baked Mechanical type.
