    Hello Alex...

Re: your post dated 12 Jan 2013 23:08

I know (and understand) that the French navy was destroyed by the Revolution,
(and probably never recovered). Like the Russian navy was destroyed by
another revolution in the beginning of the XX century, and and recovered
    only in 1960-s.

    "probably" ?

Actually the French Navy did recover after the French Revolution.

In the early 1930's the French Navy was definitely rated as one of the first in the World. UK and France were definitely part of the "top 3" by 1935.

Went downwards afterwards, sadly true (for us at least)...

But it is still currently the only Navy with the US Navy to OPERATE (in a fully operational standpoint) jet aircraft day and night on board Nuclear Aircraft carriers (you have around 12, and we have only 1 and have long been waiting for a second one) while launching Aircraft before next recoveries, and to hold a fleet of SSBN's with absolute and sovereign power on their use. Only 4 navies in the World have this characteristic : USA, Russia, China and France.

When in exchange in the US Navy as an Aircraft Carrier Pilot for a period of 3 years, I have many times experienced the very strong ties which have linked our both Navies.

Other than that, I am following with a lot of interest your thread on the "French Lunar Story" because there might remain a lot to learn here.

Best Friendly Regards and Happy New Year 2013 from
