I will use the internal links to post photos of my last ship and the sextant.

I didn't take the sextant for two reasons: 1) the owners sold the ship in Singapore. She has 1 more trip to make and I would never leave a ship that needs to make an ocean passage bereft of a sextant, as unlikely as it would be that they would need it. 2) I can't carry such a large box on an airplane in addition to my other gear.

As far as the vernier on the micrometer drum, I see that I am in the very minority opinion. For my own mind, I like to be able to read my instruments without interpolation to the limit of their mechanical precision. I also never have an issue in reading it incorrectly. After much time reading slide rules, calipers/micrometers, and sextants; reading a vernier is second nature to me. Your mileage may vary.
