Eccentricity error is described simply on page 45 and on page 46, complete with mention of the sine.
Less obviously, if the axis of the index arm is not at right angles to the plane of the rack or scale, a somewhat similar error will appear. See the post for 20 March 2011 "C Plath Sextant Lives Again" at www. sextantbook.com
