I wrote a program which I thought was a help in planning cruises.
You enter a set of waypoints and it would prepare a report of distances
between waypoints, bearing to each waypoint and sailing time at the average
speed you select. A really boring program! But it helps me dream of all
the places I want to see before hanging up the oilies for good.
In searching the web I found a site that has a million times better
program. It is the program I wanted to write but decided it would take me
too long to prepare. It displays a chart of the area you want to cruise
(charts come with the program!) and you just place a cursor on a waypoint
and 2 click. Voila! You have captured the waypoint Lat/Lon. It also
interfaces with a GPS to indicate the position of your boat on the chart!
Also you can interface it to your autopilot! The only drawback I can detect
is that it does not make the morning coffee. I am sure the author, Olle
Soderholm, is working on that, too.
I have no connection with Olle.... I just found it on the web,
installed it and took it for a test spin and have to give Olle Soderholm,
    the author, a hats off.
The site for downloading it is:
    http://www.maritimo.com/freesoft.stm
Sorry but you'll have to copy the URL to your browser. I can't make
it a link with MS Exchange (bad software!).

COOCHI, laid up for winter in N Chesapeake. The days are getting
longer... it won't be long now. Only a few more winter storms to endure ...
    then I'm outa here!
