Slocum's meeting with Kruger, at one point on opposite sides of the street, was an enjoyable part of his book. Slocum would motion with his hands to form a sphere as to say, "around the world" while Kruger motioned linearly meaning, "throughout the world".

Mrs. Kruger was curious how one could sail from one point on the earth and arrive back at the same point. Kruger's daughters weren't of the flat earth opinion.
