    Here is a Bowditch friendly version of the example plot with a Sun Moon Fix added.

    For the small sailing craft the running fix may have to do for resetting the DR plot. Many sailors only use the Sun for CN so have no choice.

    I do agree with you that the CN running fix isn't good enough for reseting the DR plot aboard a commercial ship.

    Not that it's wrong Greg, but that plot is not conventional. Typical "day's runs" only "reset" the DR at fixes. This would usually be at star times. The exception to this would be sun/moon/planet fixes during the day. R.Fixes and especially EP's, aren't good enough to reset the DR plot in my book. I'll refer people to pages 676 and 677 in Vol 1 of the 1984 Bowditch.
