Jeremy,
Attached are three examples of different uncertainty shapes showing that the exact shape is not critical: simply drop a line from the TP to the new LOP which is perpendicular to that new LOP. In other words, pick the point on the new LOP which is closest to your TP. The TP being the EP, DR, wherever your best pre-LOP position estimate is. This is our best effort, who can ask for more??
Expressed differently, we use all the CN accuracy perpendicular to the new LOP, while retaining all the previously estimated positional info along the new LOP. We use all available info, make no unreasonable assumptions, and make no contradictions. How can we do better than that??
